Readers, listeners, and people just stopping by - what do you think of the new look?

Here’s what I have changed so far:

  1. I changed the test to be bigger, thinner, and grayer to lessen the contrast.
  2. The bright blue of the navigation columns has been changed to a darker blue, and it may get changed again to a deeper, more subtle but glowy blue. Now the glare interfering with the text has been lessened.
  3. I have replaced the medium-blue boxes with white borders that fell behind the post information with a tweaked image of fluorescent neurons, that also seems to integrate with the spinal column on the left.
  4. The spinal column, if you’ll notice, no longer hides behind the text, interfering with your reading pleasure. It now gracefully sits on the far left side.
  5. The fMRI image of my brain at the top has been shifted over to the left to line up with the new position of the spinal column. Currently, the back end of my brain is cut off, which may change.
  6. The navigation column on the right side now extends all the way to the top, so there isn’t that big blue gap anymore. I may do something similar to the left side. One of the two sides will be given rotating images of me and other things.
  7. I finally got around to fixing the footer image so it doesn’t have that big gray block at the bottom (left over from the original theme - click on “800″ on the bottom right to see my starting point).
  8. NEW - I added a randomly rotating image on the top right, where you’ll see my picture, by evil counterpart’s picture, DICER, a gel I ran a year ago, and more. I’ll make a page that explains each one, because they are have personal significance.

So what do you think?

I had considered switching to black text on white, but right now I really like the black background - it allows me to have glowing neurons and other fun things that a white background can’t have. So I’m concentrating on making the text more readable, and the site more comfortable for the eyes. But there are still some more problems I’m working on:

  • If you’ll notice, the topmost horizontal neuron image clashes with the brain stem just below the Medulla Oblongata (light blue part), and I’m considering darkening it so that it matches.
  • The back of my brain is cut off, and I have the missing chunk sitting in a file ready to use (I feel like a neurosurgeon - put the occipital lobe in the fridge please, nurse, I’ll reattach it tomorrow). I can’t figure out how to frame it on the left side so that it fits in aesthetically, any ideas of what to put around it? Maybe I can have that piece in a different color, maybe a color negative? Or leave it out?
  • The simple red text on the header is going to change, maybe still red-colored, but I’m trying to figure out a good font. Any suggestions?
  • The categories need to be re-organized, into a more sensible layout. It’s also a really long list - I need to sub-categorize some of them.

I appreciate your input.
