How many SciFi Soundtracks?
Posted in Mindcast, Science Fiction By Karl Haro von Mogel.Over the ~2.5 years that I’ve been doing my radio show, I have accumulated a whole host of science fiction soundtracks that I use as theme music for each episode. Lately, that list has been getting huge, as I pick up one CD after another at used music shops, Ebay, and from beating up other geeks that I meet on the street. I’ve been wondering just how many I have, and until now I didn’t have a full count. If you’ve heard the varied music I’ve played on the Mindcast, you might also have wondered that yourself.
Wonder no longer, I signed up for an account at SoundTrackCollector, and spent a good 2 hours entering in my soundtracks. You can view them here. What’s the grand total? 47! Well, 48. They don’t just have the soundtracks in their database, they have each individual version and release, plus compilation albums. As it turned out, they didn’t have the release of Space 1999 that I have, so I actually submitted the UPC code, label, year, and all that info to add my release to their list, which should happen when they, oh, get around to it.
So check it out. I’ve got to take a break from this right now, but over time I’ll add soundtracks to my wish list, which should make it easier for me to figure out what I’m missing, and maybe help others help me find some rarer soundtracks, like Galaxy Quest.
If anyone has a specific theme song request for the Mindcast, feel free to email me at science AT inoculatedmind DOT com!
